VCODE ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

1. Introduction

This policy sets out what you may not do on or to the VCode website at vcode.co.uk (the “Site”). It forms part of our Terms and Conditions, and using the Site means accepting it.

The general rule is simple. Use the Site lawfully, honestly, and in a way that does not harm anyone else or interfere with the Site working for other people. Everything below follows from that.

2. Prohibited Uses

You must not use the Site:

  • In any way that breaks applicable law or regulation, in the United Kingdom or wherever you are
  • For any fraudulent or deceptive purpose, or to impersonate any person or organisation, including us
  • To infringe our intellectual property rights or anyone else’s
  • To send unsolicited advertising, sales approaches or bulk messages through the enquiry form, or to submit anything false, abusive, threatening, defamatory, obscene or unlawful
  • To collect or harvest personal information, email addresses or contact details from the Site, by hand or automatically
  • To imply an endorsement, partnership, certification or authenticity that does not exist, or to present our material as your own

3. Technical Restrictions

You must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its server, its administration area, or any system or database connected to it
  • Scan, probe, brute force, fuzz or otherwise test the security of the Site or its host without our prior written permission, other than as described in Section 5
  • Knowingly introduce viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or any other malicious or technologically harmful material
  • Attack the Site by denial-of-service or distributed denial-of-service
  • Place an unreasonable load on the Site through automated requests, or circumvent any rate limit, filter or other protective measure
  • Use robots, crawlers or automated tools to extract content beyond what a search engine’s ordinary indexing requires, or scrape content for republication, resale, or the training of machine learning or generative AI systems
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive source code from any part of the Site, beyond what the law allows you to do regardless of contract
  • Copy, mirror or frame the Site, or reproduce any part of its design, other than as our Terms permit

Breaching these provisions may be a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. We report serious breaches to the relevant authorities and cooperate with them, which may include disclosing your identity.

4. Codes and Marks Shown on This Site

Any VCode image published on the Site appears to illustrate the technology. You must not copy, reproduce, alter, print or circulate it, present it as a genuine issued code, or use it to suggest that a product, document, event or organisation is authenticated when it is not.

VCode and VPlatform are UK registered trade marks and may not be used without permission.

5. Reporting a Security Problem

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in the Site, please tell us through the contact form, choosing the General enquiry type, with enough detail for us to reproduce it.

We ask that you:

  • Report it promptly and give us a reasonable opportunity to fix it before disclosing it publicly
  • Do not access, alter, delete or download data that is not your own
  • Do not degrade the service for others, and do not run denial-of-service, spam or social engineering tests against us or our staff
  • Act in good faith and stay within the law

We will not pursue action against researchers who follow those points in good faith. We do not currently run a paid bug bounty, but we will acknowledge your report and are glad to credit you.

6. Suspension and Termination

We decide whether this policy has been broken, and we will act proportionately. Depending on the breach we may:

  • Withdraw your right to use the Site, immediately and without notice
  • Block the network address or traffic involved
  • Issue a warning
  • Take legal proceedings and claim our costs
  • Disclose the matter to law enforcement where we consider it necessary

We are not liable for action taken in response to a breach of this policy, and the responses above are not exhaustive.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this policy at any time. The version published here is the one that applies, and the “Last Updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
